Hub in bedroom, tv in lounge

Just received quick start kit. Realised has to be connected via Ethernet to hub in bedroom. Tv is in lounge. Two coax boxes in flat. One in bedroom with hub, old tv coax in lounge. Need a engineer to reconfigure cabling. How do I call for a visit?

Re: Hub in bedroom, tv in lounge

The V6 does NOT have to have its internet connection by Ethernet cable.

It can be successfully connected using WiFi, preferable the 5GHz signal.

Failing that, connection can be made by Ethernet over powerline.

My V6 has always been connected by WiFi with no issues.

Re: Hub in bedroom, tv in lounge

That's good news. How do I get the box set up to use wifi, please? I can't get past initial setup screen. Sorry for being a tv noob.

Re: Hub in bedroom, tv in lounge

it will ask you to connect during the setup. Is it connected to a working coax point?

Re: Hub in bedroom, tv in lounge

It was connected to the coax that used to give me tv years ago, but now they want me to use the coax box used by the hub... in the bedroom... with the splitter. Initially I had old tv coax plugged in and a powerline adapter to the hub, but it refused to connect to internet.

Thanks for the continued support, folks!

Re: Hub in bedroom, tv in lounge

No, just use the co-ax in the lounge. No need for the splitter to be used.

With the V6 plugged into the lounge co-ax, during setup, it will look for the WiFi, as there will be no Ethernet cable present.

Re: Hub in bedroom, tv in lounge

Thanks, I gave it a try again, but still wouldn't offer me wifi, or connect via the powerline adapter.

I have just confirmed that the coax I'm using is live, as the old cisco box connects and gives me a channel guide. It also says my old viewing card is out of date. No surprise there! At least the coax is definitely sending a signal.

If only I could set up the box to automatically use wifi...

Re: Hub in bedroom, tv in lounge

Are you sure that you don’t have an Ethernet cable in the Ethernet port on the V6?

Re: Hub in bedroom, tv in lounge

Good question. It may have been plugged in. I only unplugged it from the powerline. Is there a sensor in the Ethernet socket which governs if it will try for wifi?

I'll try that next.

Grateful for all input, thanks!
