How do I split the 4k signal from v6 box to both tv and av amp?

Hi,

I had to change my av amp (Onkyo) that had HDMI pass through to a Sony STR-DH800 that does not.

I realise that I need a splitter that handles 4k, 2.2 hdcp and 2.0b cables etc, but I am getting very confused as to how to achieve this so the v6 box can split the 4k signal so I can put an HDMI cable to my Panasonic 4k tv and a HDMI lead to the Sony av amp?

Any suggestions to what type and make of splitter box will suit my needs?

I just wish to use the virgin v6 without having to turn the Sony av amp on every time I want to watch TV?

Please, please help, I can't seem to get a straight answer anywhere?

Regards, Derek

Can the amp not take an optical lead?

Hi,

Thanks for such a quick reply, YES it can take an optical lead. The amp just physically does not have HDMI pass through.

Kind regards,

Derek

Re: How do I split the 4k signal from v6 box to both tv and av amp?

Does that mean that I would connect from the V6 box to my TV via the optical out put on the V6 box, and won't interfere when I need to use the av amp?

The Sony STR-DH800 is a very old model - most likely pre-HDCP for what V6 requires.

Why do you need to use the Sony for tv/audio as well as the tv?

What happened to the original amp?

What I suggested would give you full picture to the tv and full audio only to the amp at the same time.

Re: How do I split the 4k signal from v6 box to both tv and av amp?

My Onkyo NR-616 suddenly stopped allowing picture through to the TV via the HDMI. My son also tried everything he could but with no luck. (Unfortunately, I am not at all tech savy, and disabled, so my wife has to connect or disconnect any cables, except when I see my son).

Trying to get the Onkyo repaired where I live is a nightmare, so hooked the Sony amp up with the help of a neighbour.

Although I cannot recommend a suitable HDMI splitter I believe that it's always best to choose a powered device whenever you can. What you can also do is check out feedback on the Amazon website and buy from a supplier who will accept returns.

Re: How do I split the 4k signal from v6 box to both tv and av amp?

Have you tried plugging the Virgin Box directly into the TV via HDMI, and then the TV into the amp? Using eARC, my TV passes the full audio back to the amp.

Depending on the age and type of TV, this may work (and you will only need ARC rather than the newer eARC with an older amp I believe, as in theory it will cope with Dolby Digital) - sometimes on just one HDMI socket.
