Half of a film not being recorded

As far as I know, I have a Tivo V6 box (based on photographs).

This seems to be a recurring problem whereby I set the thing to record a film and then find only half of it has been recorded.

For example last night at about 23.00 I was on the TV guide screen and found a film due to start at 23.10 and end at 01.15.  There was to be a 5-minute break at 00.10 to 00.15 for a film review or something like that.  So that's exactly two 2 hour bits with a 5-minute break.

I highlighted the film starting at 23.10 and pressed the "R" button. The "R" symbol appeared on both parts of the showing. I then closed the box down and that was that.

Today, when I went to check the recording had worked, I found it appeared to have commenced recording at the 5-minute break, so had omitted the first hour of the show.

This is not the first time that only half a show has been recorded, what I'm not sure of is whether the facts were identical - i.e. there was a gap and that it was the first bit that was missing.  Either way, something is wrong somewhere, whether user fault or system fault.

Any ideas?

Re: Half of a film not being recorded

Which channel/film?   How long is the recording - could the channel have broadcast part 2 first as I've seen that before!

Did you have other recordings active at the same time?

Easy to check - https://my.virginmedia.com/your-tv-box/index.html

If you follow Home > My shows > Recording hiccups, is anything obvious shown in there?

And does this happen on any specific channels, or on programmes other than films?

Re: Half of a film not being recorded

The link to the picture of the Tivo boxes was the one I had seen and where I got the reference from - thanks.

The channel was ITV4. If they broadcast in the wrong order then I'm presuming the other part would have been recorded too albeit in the wrong order; it was not.

I'm not able to say for certain what the previous circumstances were, it's something I'll have to monitor going forward, perhaps try and record a whole load of stuff I don't really want just to test.

Re: Half of a film not being recorded

Hi PeterB,

To try and replicate the error can  you record Dear Diary I Died.

It's on the Sony Movie Channel (425) tomorrow morning 9am to 10.15, with a 5 minute break at 9.55 for Sony Movie News.

I'll do the same and see what happens.

Dave

Re: Half of a film not being recorded

Dave,

Good idea thwarted by the fact that I don't have #425.

Let me find an alternative once my wife's finished watching what she's watching.

Ozsat, thanks I've found the repeat and set that up.

Channel 5 are showing christmas films most afternoons at the moment, and they're usually listed with a 5minute break in the middle. Just make sure you're clear whether you're recording in SD or HD.

Re: Half of a film not being recorded

I'm trying "Manhunter" on ITV4+1 (Channel 175) tonight.

Starts at 23.00.
