If our V6 box has to be replaced owing to a fault, can our recorded content be transferred over to the new box? By the technician?

unfortunalty not, it is not possible to transfer any content from Virgins set top boxes

Recording on VMs equipment are licensed for time-shifting purposes only. So although you can effectively keep the recordings on the box for as long as you like, once the box is kaput the recordings go with it. The licensing allows for streaming of recordings, but copying them is not allowed.

Hey @g0akc,
Welcome back to the community and thanks for taking the time to post.
As the two members of the community have confirmed, there is no way for recordings to be transferred from box to box.

Which makes a box going faulty all the more frustrating!

Not a lot VM can do, their hands are tied by the broadcasters. In the rest of Europe (excluding Ireland) recordings are held in the cloud & not locally, so recordings are not lost. The drawback is that the broadcasters then decide how long you have to view what you have recorded.

I have two V6 boxes that have been in constant use since 2016 wiithout a single issue. Seems pretty reliable to me.

That's good then - but I guess we'll have to agree to disagree - I worked for years in the industry as a quality and reliability engineer, including doing life test, climatic and bump/shock - from what I've seen it's not great at all.
also these forums seem to be full of people having issues with the V6.
