Can I Control The TV Volume On My Soundbar With The V6 Remote?

Poddys
Dialled in

I had the V6 remote controlling my Panasonic TV fine. Just plugged in a new soundbar (Majority Snowdon) using an optical cable. Wondered if I could control the volume using my V6 remote?

Looking at the forum for Majority it doesn't look like I can (shame as the V6 remote was controlling everything until I got the soundbar) but I thought it worth asking. So many folks on here with more knowledge than me.

Hey @Poddys,

Welcome back to the community and thanks for taking the time to post.

I have looked into this and we have no way of doing this directly to the sound bar, one of the only ways to do this can be found on a forum post here.

Hi,

I’ve got the same issues. My majority soundbar is connected via optical and works but to turn the volume down I have to the the majority remote and pressing volume up and down on my virgin remote makes it louder.

How do I control it normally and is it possible to turn it on with the virgin remote too? I’ve got a Hisense tv if it makes a difference.

And the community link above is archived now.

Thanks.

Hi @NickH95

Try this method (you might need new batteries for your remote and a lot of patience)

  1. Make sure the AV device and your V6 box are switched on
  2. Press and hold down Clear and Volume Down at the same time until the light on top of the remote flashes green twice
  3. Enter the code 1999 to access the AV device code database – the LED will flash green twice
  4. Point the remote at the AV device and press channel up repeatedly until a code mutes the volume for the device – the LED will flash green each time a code is sent
  5. When the volume turns off, press Mute to turn the volume back on
  6. Press Volume Up / Down and Mute to check that the remote is working with your device. If it doesn’t work, continue to search using Channel Up until the next code turns off the volume, and repeat steps 5 and 6
  7. When the Volume and Mute keys work, press OK to store the code. The LED will then flash green twice

If you reach the end of the code database, the light on top of the remote will give an extended red flash and exit programming mode.

NOTE: If you think you’ve missed the code for the AV device, you can work backwards through the code database by pressing the channel down button at any time.

Hi,

thank you for this.

however I’m a bit confused, are you talking about on my virgin remote? What is the clear button? When I do the pairing through the virgin box the mute function works and down on volume turns it up but that’s about it.

Thanks.

Hi @NickH95

You've posted in the V6 forum, so I assume you have a V6 box.

The Clear button is in the bottom left hand corner as per screenshot below.
