Yes, they do.

However, it will depend on the content being broadcast as to whether it is 5.1 or 2.0

Dolby Digital doesn't mean only stereo as it is a digital audio coding technique which can deliver from one to six discrete channels of sound. From my experience BBC One HD almost always seems to broadcast in stereo.

Nearly everything on all BBC channels is DD2.0 on Virgin (as well as Sky and Freeview).

Occasional programmes are DD5.1 - the next one on BBC1 which is advertised as DD5.1 is 'Inside Man' on Tuesday at 10pm.

BBC2 has two films today (Sunday) in DD5.1 at 3.45pm and 10pm.

It's programme dependent. A number of drama's are 5.1, but some like Shetland are still 2.0 (AAC stereo).

Bloodlands is 5.1 as is Frozen Planet II and Doctor Who has been 5.1 for a few of the last series.

How can you tell which programs are DD2 or 5.1 please? If you record a 5.1 prog on V6 will it replay as 5.1?
thankyou

Can you please tell me how you find out when a prog is 5.1? Also if you record a 5.1 prog on V6 does it playback as 5.1?
thanks

Yes it plays back as 5.1 unless you set your audio options to other. I don;t have my v6 box anymore as I went to Stream, but I think they are similar in that they don't say it's 5.1 in the GUIDE data.

Not many programmes are 5.1 on the BBC channels and no-one seems to publically release details of those programmes which are 5.1.

The V6 (and 360) will record 5.1 when it is present.

Tonight (28 Feb) on BBC1 is MotD and Rain Man. Tomorrow (1 Feb) on BBC1 is MotD and Captain America
