BBC iplayer

How are Virgin TV customers able to use BBC iplayer? I tried last night and got a screen saying I now have to sign into my account which I can't do on TV. Same screen came up when I tried the app.

Re: BBC iplayer

Virgin TV is seen as a connected TV by the BBC.

This useful helpfile from the BBC describes how you get an account and logon on a connected TV:

Spoiler
Press enter, this will take you to login screen, just push back button on remote and you go straight into the iPlayer without the BBC gathering your details.

That doesn't work on the V6. Sign in is required and can't be skipped as far as I can see.

Re: BBC iplayer

By the time I’ve done all that I won’t have time to watch the programme!

Anyway I don’t want to watch using the iPlayer app.  I used to be able to just select something on catch-up and watch it like I can for other channels.  How come I can’t do that anymore?

Once you do the sign in you then stay signed in for up to two years. You don't have to do it every time you watch an iPlayer show.

Sign In is required by the BBC across the iPlayer on connected devices, not just the V6.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/help/latest-news/account-signin

Once you've signed in, then selecting a show from the Catch Up menus on the V6 will normally take you directly to the show in the iPlayer app.

Re: BBC iplayer

I got the 'You must now enter a password' thing for the first time last week.

It says you only have to do it once.

That's NOT correct.

I find athat if I clear my computer browser history and cookies I have to do it again.

So, if you clear on a daily basis you have to put in a new password daily.

And my computer is an another part of the house and NOT connected to the TV.

And I don't watch TV or iPlayer on my computer....only on my TV.

And to top it all today Google says bbc.com/accounts/tv doesn't even exist so I can't access it at all.

What is the BBC playing at?

I don't expect any answers I just needed to rant as the BBC offer no way to contact them with feedback.

Re: BBC iplayer

Yes it became mandatory last week. I now only watch iplayer on my Roku box, as a guest. Refuse to give BBC my details.
