2nd box arriving

I was offered another box which is arriving today. I believe it is a V6 tivo. I used to have 2 boxes bat cancelled it a few years ago, the cable is still attached in other room so will the cable still be live if I plug it into new box when it arrives?

Also to watch recordings from main box on new box do they need to be physically wired together?

The only way is to try it & see. If it does not work then you need a manned install.

They both need to be connected to your hub, either Wired (Ethernet) or WiFi (if the signal is adequate). If it is a V6 TiVO it will have its own hard drive, as well as having access to the other box.
