new 360 box and remote received (upgrade from TIVO) - can't install as receiving error continually. Tried rebooting TV and box several times, no joy

Hi WW3,
Just as a basic first question to clarify things, if you are upgrading from a TiVo box, (not a TiVo V6 box) then you need to have a separate ethernet connection, the TiVo box had an in built hub.
This can be either by ethernet cable or WiFi, ethernet cable is always the preferred method depending on the distance between the hub and the box.
