Okay this might be a stupid question, but can I remove the bottom part of the v6 box containing the hard drive now that I am on 360?

No, you can't. All kit Virgin Media issue to customers is rented and cannot be altered by the customer in any way.

360 still uses the hard drive for recordings.

Hey @GraemeM89, thanks for reaching out to us and a warm welcome to the Virgin Media forums.

Unfortunately you are not allowed to alter / modify any of the Virgin Media equipment as it still owned by us.
As @BenMcr has mentioned, the 360 still does use the hard drive for recordings.
Hope this clarifies.

Kind regards.
