Tv screen size

I have upgraded to the new virgin 360 box thinking it would help the issue I have with my new 4K Sony Bravia. As with the V6 box I can’t change my screen size when watching through my box, it works fine on my amazon fire stick,I contacted virgin and they say there is nothing they can do about this.

Is there a way of fixing this problem?

Re: Tv screen size

What do you mean by change screen size? What are you watching that needs to be changed?

Re: Tv screen size

When I watch a film on sky cinema and it is on wide screen and I try to change it to full screen none of the options on the picture size are available.

Re: Tv screen size

That's because all HD channels are always broadcast in 16:9 aspect ratio to fit a HD or 4K TV exactly. To show films that aren't in that aspect ratio, Sky insert black bars into the picture to preserve the original picture.

Depending on the film it's either Letterboxing - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Letterboxing_(filming) , or Pillarboxing - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pillarbox

This means there is nothing for a Virgin box to change - it's outputting the correct picture that Sky are sending. If your TV doesn't allow alteration of the picture then it's not something that can be changed.
