TV360 - missing functionality

davorg
Up to speed

It's approaching a year since TV360 was made available to VM customers and there is still a lot of functionality missing that we used to have on the old V6 software. Here are some of the most obvious things we're missing.

  • Multi-channel programme links - set the box to record a programme no matter which channel it is broadcast on
  • Search for programmes that aren't scheduled to be broadcast in the next two weeks - the old system knew about all programmes, not just ones that are currently in the EPG
  • Search for programmes by person - the old system knew about the cast and presenters of shows and you could set up a search that would record all shows featuring a particular person
  • Categorise recordings by type - sometimes I want to watch a film and the old system allowed me to just display the films I have recorded

What are the plans to bring the TV360 software up to the level of functionality that customers previously enjoyed?

On our wavelength

We are just a couple of weeks into our switch to 360 and I must admit that to my undemanding eye that we seem to have lost more than we have gained in terms of funcionality compared to the V6 Tivo software.  We are not users of the more sophisticated functions of either sets of software.  The features that we find we miss are more to do with the presentation of programme information.  The EPG information on the Home screen has shrunk in text size to accommodate graphical thumbnails in a banner across the bottom.  It may look good but it makes useability harder.  Bring back the old Tivo home screen.  Then when looking at the choice of live programs, the Tivo system showed when the programme was first aired, which helped a lot when deciding if we had seen it before.  In the Tivo recorded programme list it was linear text and seemed nice and basic to find and navigate.  The new 360 lists are beset with thumbnail images with the TV channel display now so small that it can't easily be read, particularly as the likes of ITV or channel 5 use tiny superscripts to differentiate their several channels.  The differences may seem small but they affect ease of use.  We will get used to it in the same way I guess as learning to eat soup with a fork, but throwing graphics/small pictures at it to "improve" the experience doesn't always work...........but superficially it looks good.  Yes, on balance, so far 360 doesn't offer very much compared with the V6 Tivo.

On the V6 there was a list of your programmes that you have down to record.   If an episode was coming up in  the next two weeks  the entry was in bold type, otherwise it was greyed out.  Now, on the 360, I had Have I Got News For You down to record the series, taken initially from the EPG. It did that and now the series has ended there is no further entry for HIGNFY.  Does this mean it's not going to record the inevitable new series in due course and I will have to set it up again when it next appears on the EPG or is this information still inside the box and I just haven't managed to find it yet?

TV360 series links are sticky between series in the same way that TiVo/V6 still is.

What you're encountering, is a side-effect of two differences between TV360 & TiVo/V6:

1: TV360 doesn't have a "Manage my series link" feature unlike TiVo/V6,

2: TV360 requires a programme to be in the EPG before a SL can be set. TiVo/V6 allows you to set a SL from any VoD entry.

Hi chrisjames,

It will record the next series unless you selected the "This Series only" option from advanced settings, which I doubt, best to select "New only" or you might get repeat recordings if the series is shown again.

Thanks for the interest but I cannot remember what I set originally because the info is not available for me to view now but you are probably right, I would not have set "This Series Only" but it is not really acceptable that I cannot check. The box has the information then but it cannot be viewed. Absurd.

I know the problem, the feature to view and manage your series links was good with TiVo V6, and now if you delete a series you have watched if you don't select the delete series and series link option it will start recording it again. You do need a better way of being able to mamage the series links like the V6 had.
