TV turned on automatically

In the past 2 weeks i upgraded my package as it was due for renewal. As part of the pack i was sent 2 x 360 remotes but told if i didnt wish to upgrade just put them to one side. I didnt want to upgrade as i was told it would lose my recordings.

Fast forward to this morning and as i was on the phone to VM for a billing issue when my TV automatically turned on and said it was doing a virgin media update.

As yet the TV still shows this message, i was assured by the person on the phone it would turn off if no input was detected but it hasnt so far (over 1 hour!). Had i been at work this would have remained on for over 9 hours.....on holiday would have meant days!😠20220627_121151.jpg

Hi @mba1980

The box automatically updates itself to a 360 around 5 days after the remote controls are received unless you complete the process yourself using the onscreen app.

You need to use the V6 remote at the start, and then the 360 controls to complete the process.

The picture you posted is showing the 360 remote and asking you to press the 'TV' button and '0' button together until the Standby button starts to flash.

You might need to pull the transparent tab out of the back of the battery compartment of the 360 remote to allow it to work.

Thanks for the reply, however I think you've missed the point.

  1. I was told I didn't need to upgrade. Never told about the 5 day rule
  2. It's turned my TV on automatically without my permission and no sign of turning off.

I'm more **bleep** about the fact my TV would be on without anyone in the house!

My tv will turn itself off after 4 hours of no-one touching the remote.

Have found here that the SkyQ box has turned the tv on three times overnight. May have been more but the 4 hour rule may have kicked in before I noticed.

1. The person you spoke to was ill-informed. As has been mentioned, the action of being sent the remotes starts the update process of switching from TiVo to 360. If you don't manually  update, the box will auto-update for you.

2. You have already given your permission, by signing up to the remotes (point 1).

This is why I hate HDMI-CEC and why I've disabled it. Why would I want my TV turned on when I'm not watching it.
