I recorded the long shadow and started watching it the other night. Near the end, a notice popped up top right of screen that gave me the option to watch next episode within 10 seconds or cancel. Obvs cancelled as the current episode had more than 10 seconds remaining. Is there a way i could turn it off.

No you can't turn off the watch next episode pop up, there have several post's about this here's one.

As mentioned this is something that is just built into all these streaming channels unfortunately.

This is a "feature" of the 360 box, not related to streaming. It annoyingly cannot be turned off, so you just have to put up with it.
