We have no children in the house so our PIN is turned off yet we still have to enter the PIN to access some recordings, even after 9 pm.

How do I disable this annoying feature

Hi @Pollyp40

Forum Staff don't tend to look in the chatter/natter forums, so I've moved your post to the 360 forum based upon your previous threads.

Go to Settings > Parental Controls > and turn Watershed recordings pin to Off.  This means you won't require a pin to watch recordings from watershed compliant channels outside of the watershed hours.

Be aware that PIN protection on some transmitted material is now mandatory under OFCOM restrictions.

"The Ofcom Broadcasting Code (“the Code”) allows for films rated up to ‘15’ by the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) to be broadcast during the daytime on premium subscription channels and up to ‘18’ on pay per view film channels, provided that they are protected by a mandatory PIN code. This form of protection is called mandatory daytime protection (“MDP”) and cannot be removed or bypassed by viewers.

Following our consultation in March 2018, this document sets out Ofcom’s decision to extend the application of the MDP rules in the Code to permit scheduled television channels to show programmes, which can currently only be shown after the 9pm watershed, before this time, but only if mandatory daytime protection is in place.

Ofcom has carefully considered all consultation responses in reaching this decision and this statement concludes the review. The revisions to the relevant rules to extend MDP beyond premium film content will come into force on 1 January 2019."

Hi, thanks for replying, but, as I said in my post, the PIN requirement for watershed recordings is already turned off. Despite this, I am regularly required to enter my PIN to access recordings and last night, I even had to do it after 9pm.

Hence my frustration

This is to do with the OFCOM regulations that nodrogd described, certain channels broadcast post-watershed content before 9pm (mostly Sky channels), but by doing so it means they have to be permanently locked behind a pin that can't be turned off, which is obviously annoying if you don't have kids.

I'm not sure that this applies to streamed TV such as BBC iPlayer, ITVX, ALL4 or Netflix. I cannot recall ever being asked to enter my PIN when viewing post-watershed programmes via these, whatever time I watch them. A loophole, maybe?

There is no encryption on free channels, hence no PIN protection, so they have no option but to stick to the current 9pm watershed rule. Streamers such as Netflix come under a different set of OFCOM rules.

I understand what you are saying, nodrogd, but surely that only applies to broadcast TV. As far as I am aware there is nothing to prevent me from watching a post-watershed programme from BBC iPlayer, ITVX or ALL4 with my breakfast - not that I have ever tried nor even wanted to.

These are controlled by the apps themselves, as they are controlled directly by the broadcasters. The default setting on BBC iPlayer asks for a PIN if you try to watch anything outside the watershed.

Thanks, I didn't know that. Personally, I've never come across this. Not that I'm a daytime TV viewer. I will check my settings the next time I dive into one of the streamers.
