I’ve had Virgin now for a few years and when I did an extension I upgraded my Virgin Package to the 600mb multiroom deal. I have 3 v6 and 2 TIVO boxes around the house and the setup works great.
my Delano’s up for renewal shortly and when I rang the other day that advised they would only offer me a renewal with 3 boxes in total so have to give up 2 and the package was £80 per month more than for a new joiner. So that’s a double whammy kick in the teeth.
broadband is limited around here and we are a heavy user household.
is there any way I can retain the 5 boxes and still get service or am I being forced to have a 40% reduced service and not give me good customer service?

The 3 box limit is a limitation of the 360 box (I suspect because of the way it has one master box and then non-recording mini boxes), if you can get a deal while keeping your existing boxes then I would have thought there shouldn't be a problem. Unless VM are now forcing people onto the inferior 360 box, or limiting the number of boxes people can have in preparation for switching everyone over.

The change to 360 is still voluntary, although you will have problems if the TiVO boxes fail as they are no longer replaced, & I believe the maximum V6 count is 4 per account.
V360 is based on cloud recording, which is not currently allowed in the UK or Eire. Hence 360 uses a hard drive box (singular) & slave mini boxes. While you are currently allowed to convert 3 V6 boxes to 360, when these fail they are likely to be replaced with one main box & minis. Considering the disk activity required on the main box to buffer/record for all 6 tuners, plus playing out 3 recorded items at the same time I think this is the likely issue causing the restriction.

From what they said there were now limiting the number of boxes to a house to 3 and I would have to give up the 2 TiVo boxes.
Not at all the service I am after as I have 4 kids in the house all doing their own thing.

Technology is moving away from PVRs to streaming options. This is mainly a customer driven thing, so you are fighting a losing battle here. What alternatives are there? SkyQ, the only other commercially available alternative is a master box & 4 mini boxes. But again there is a master box restriction meaning that only 2 of the mini boxes can be in use at the same time.

I guess I could get SkyQ here but will still need Virgin for the broadband as they are way faster than anyone else where I live in Dorset.
Will look and see what they can offer.
Thanks

As already alluded to you, you're being offered 2 separate things here..
A package change which affects your monthly bill, and a choice to convert from TiVo/V6 > 360.
The agent may well suggest that the two are interlinked, but they're not. There should be no reason why you can't take the package change but retain your existing software setup on TiVo/V6 if that's what you'd rather. The choice to convert is exactly as nodrogd has said - voluntary.
Many people do a package change and software conversion at the same time, but there's no compulsion to.
