*** Fixed *** V6 box stuck on welcome screen/red light

*** I fixed it myself ***

It sounded like the HDD was stuck.  I simply lifted the box up not more than 1/2 an inch, and let it fall, I heard the HDD come unstuck, and the box booted fine.

Hi one of my 2 V6 boxes will not come on.  It stays stuck on the welcome screen, with a red light.  If I leave it, the welcome screen eventually goes (after many, many mins), but red light remains.

  1. I have tried switching it off/15 secs/back on.  No luck
  2. I have swapped the failing box with the one in the other room, the one from the other room works, the one that was faulty is still faulty in the new location.
  3. I have powered off the faulty box, removed the HDMI cable, waited 10 mins, powered on (without plugging the HDMI cable back), waited 30 mins, plugged HDMI back in, still stuck!

Help please.

Re: *** Fixed *** V6 box stuck on welcome screen/red light

I'm a little confused by your post, if I'm honest...

You've referred to a V6 box, but posted in the 360 board. Not a major issue, but can you confirm which one you have?

Your symptoms have all the hallmarks of a box that needs replacing, but...

??

If you need to report a faulty box, the quickest way is to call VM on the usual (150 or 0345 4541111) number. Staff on here will respond, but may take a day or so - especially at weekends.

Let's hope the "fall" didn't do any (further) damage to the hard drive

Re: *** Fixed *** V6 box stuck on welcome screen/red light

It is a V6 box that had the firmware upgrade.

Oh, and re call customer support! pah!  I have been there before, lost over 4 hours of my time, very frustrating, and ultimately I was cut off (for the 2nd time), so want to avoid this if possible, I only have one life!

Re the possible "more damage", what more damage can be done; the HDD was stuck; I had tried numerous approaches to get the box working.

A single jolt, and it is running again.

The box is probably older than 4 years (ish), so not surprised.

Just by means of info - if you've had the 360 software migration, then you no longer have a V6. You have a 360.

It's a bit like saying "I've got a Windows 7 laptop updated to Windows 10" when you now have a Windows 10 laptop.

Glad you've got the issue sorted, although if the HDD has any physical damage, there's a fair chance another failure may only be a matter of time.

Re: *** Fixed *** V6 box stuck on welcome screen/red light

I can remember we (computer company I worked for), had a problem with IBM drives getting stiction problems, you could get them working with a "gentle" tap usually to get the data off them before replacing the drive because they only got worse. It will need replacing but when is hard to say, when you start having problems with your recordings is when to call Virgin.

Hi roy247,

Thank you for your post and welcome to the community.

I'm very sorry to hear about the issue you have had with your Tv box.

I just want to confirm as thread title advises ***Fixed***.

Do you require any further assistance?

@JohnE4U

The question that @Martin_N has directed at roy, I suspect was probably intended for you.
