Considering Virgin 360 - wall socket too far from TV - installation options

Hi community,

Currently have M350 Broadband only, and looking to get Virgin 360 added to my package. Line to property installed in 2020 so the wall socket is a new, plug in powered one.

The TV is the opposite side of the room, more than 3m from both the SH3 and wall socket, and a cable can't easily be run internally (gas fire in the way), though it's on an accessible external wall.

When proceeding on the 'upgrade' options there's a question asking if the 360 box will be less than 3m from the wall socket, if no is selected then an engineer is required at £30. Presumably as the splitter cable is 3m for TV?

So if I went ahead with this £30 engineer visit would they be able to run the extension coax outside the property, next to the wall socket, and then in at the TV? Would estimate to be about 7m of coax cable required. I could fairly easily use a coax cable extension myself (have an SDS drill also) though understand using non-supplied cables is against T&C's and may not perfectly work.

Appreciate any thoughts!

Thanks

yes they will run it outside.

you can't install your own cable you must get VM to do it

£99 is the cost for a non fault callout if you want a box moving etc. this is a new install so its not a non fault callout

When I upgraded to multi room v6 a few years back, virgin came out and routed a cable externally from the existing wall box in the front far left corner of the house ground level around the outside wall up and down over the front door along the sides  to the rear kids bedroom on the 1st floor middle of the horizontally central on the back wall of the house. This must be about 30m to 40m as it winds around the 3 outside walls and door apertures  and goes up a floor.

Early signs promising,  its took a step back in some respects to the TiVo functionality but it's new software that I suspect will improve over time. Its presentation is now modernised akin to sky and when full 4k arrives it can be watched on either box in 4k which sky minis dont.

Overall, I'm happy with it as what functionality I used before is still available. Some users thought are less happy as their bmviewing needs were different and they noticed the missing functionality on tv360.

Hi again

Just a consideration but with the external wiring around the outside of the room and re-entry at the TV location this will mean you will have 2 VM wall access points in the same room.

That though should give you flexibility of where your hub sits, access point 1 or access point 2. Perhaps discuss this with the engineer as normally it's an internal splitter from a single access point to the STB and hub.

Re: Considering Virgin 360 - wall socket too far from TV - installation options

Quick update, had the Virgin 360 with additional wall outlet installed today 😁

Engineer Mark (25031) was absolutely brilliant! All cable run perfectly outside and in, so the lounge does indeed now have 2 active outlets on each side of the gas fire. Loving 360 so far!

What did you do with the hub, by tv or on other access point?
