360 box forces wide-screen format?

I'm noticing more broadcasts that were originally in 4.3 format, displaying in 16.9 wide-screen.  Does the 360 box force wide-screen whereas the TiVo didn't or am I just noticing it more now...???  Some programmes just don't look good with a forced aspect ratio.

Re: 360 box forces wide-screen format?

There’s a setting for how to treat 4:3.

Locate that in Audio & Video settings and change as appropriate.

Home>Settings Cog>Audio&Video>4:3 handling.  Set to pillar box to keep original aspect ratio.

You will only get this on SD channels. If the channel has an HD version watch on that, as with HD transmission this old material is broadcast with blank side panels to make up the 16:9 image.

Re: 360 box forces wide-screen format?

The 360 box will do a HD / SD channel swap on all channels where it can.

So most of the time you should get the best channel available for your subscription and won't get both an SD and HD version - unless there is a different like BBC One regional variations that aren't on HD.
