There is no difference in the box - but the software is different.
The 360 box has a new slick look but doesn't have many of the useful recording functions that the V6 has.
It should update in time but I suspect it is many months away at least.
TiVo & V6 both run on the TiVo software platform that is quite mature, well-developed but VM don't actually own.
V360 runs on Horizon software platform that (in simple terms) is in-house to VM but is relatively new and not as developed as TiVo.
In time the differences will even out and more TiVo/V6 users will be migrated across to the new platform. That's a long-term project and not anything that's likely to happen imminently.

Is it just the software then? Do VM just send you a shiny new remote and then update your existing V6?
Yep, should be a new remote and a software upgrade, but be aware that although it's just an upgrade and you keep the same box you will lose recordings and settings etc. as the systems are so different.
