wifi calling

Tuning in

Hi

My wife as been unable to make or receive calls at home over the last week or so on her Samsung S8+ (she has been using landline to make calls) I rang Virgin who told me there was a fault with a mast near to us and that it may take over a week or so to sort out!  they asked me to switch to G2 in phone setting and to make sure wifi calling was turned on in order to be able to use her phone. I went to settings to turn wifi calling on but there was no wifi calling button, so I rang virgin back (another 20 min wait!) who then said they had now turned wifi calling their end and for me to turn off phone and remove Sim card for 5 mins then turn phone back on. went back to settings and still no wifi button to turn on!  I rang Virgin (another 15min wait) who said it may be a phone issue and put me through to Samsung specialist who went through settings with me to make sure I had done what had asked of me, they came to the conclusion that the Samsung S8+ will not work with with wifi calling!

I then rang Samsung help line who assured me that the S8+ will work with wifi calling (the lady I spoke to had an S8+ and she was using wifi calling) she said that it is a Sim card problem and suggested me and my wife swapped sim cards (I own a Samsung S10+ on the EE network with wifi calling enabled) once my EE sim was inserted into my wife's S8+ the wifi calling button appeared proving that it was not a phone issue!  I rang virgin back (another 15 min wait) who then agreed it was a Sim card fault and they would send me a new Sim card out. Sim card arrived today I followed instructions on how to get the new Sim card enabled, No wifi calling button, I have waited 3 hrs just in case the phone and the Sim card need to make friends but still no wifi calling.

I am now at my wits end with no one else to turn to, please HELP.

We have come to the conclusion that if we can't get wifi calling to work in the next 2 days we will change phone provider (we may even swap our internet and TV package to Sky or BT or anybody that wants our money)

sorry for the long winded post but trying to get everything in so anybody wanting to help has all the info.

Thanks

Lello

Wifi Calling from Virgin is not supported on the S8. Their lists show the S10 onwards.

Each network does wifi calling differently and the phone's firmware has to support it.

Obviously EE do support the phone, but if you change networks be careful. Plusnet, which runs on EE doesn't at all.

Vodafone support the S8 and their cheaper brand Voxi does too.

Hi

Which list are you looking at?  and if so is there not a Virgin firmware for the S8?

if you are right, may need to change provider, making sure they support S8

Thank you

Under which devices

https://www.virginmedia.com/help/mobile/wifi-and-4g-calling

There is no specific Virgin firmware for the S8 series and as Samsung have stopped updates for that range of models there won't be anything on the horizon

Flashing a different networks Firmware won't work either as none of them are compatible with Virgin's systems.

Only option is to move which if you are not under contract is no big deal.
