replace sim and phone

Tuning in

I would like to replace a phone which has a different SIM card size. I am thinking of purchasing a SIM-free phone from high-street shops, then replace with my current phone.

Could you tell me the procesure how I can request a new SIM and replace the phone with the data (contacts, app data, etc)?

How difficult is this?

How long does it take to get the new SIM from Virgin?

I could not find any information on Virgin mobile website, therefore came to this forum.

Many thanks.

How old is your SIM? All those issued in the last five years or more are of the multi push out variety. Simply pop out the smaller one which fits the new handsets.

Most of the new phones in the market has nano-SIM, whereas my current phone is with a micro-SIM.

I would not think the micro-SIM fits in nano-SIM slot.

So I need to get the nano-SIM with all my details transferred to the current SIM.

Thank you.

If you look at your micro SIM closely you will see score marks where the nano SIM can be pushed out. If you get a new SIM from Virgin it will come full size and you will have to do the same. I've done several over the last year.

HI Kaman,

Thank you for reaching out to us here on the Community and thank you to enlli for your support.

As enlli has advised, you will be able to use your current SIM by popping out the small sized nano SIM. If you are not able to do this for any reason, please get back in touch and we can arrange for a replacement to be sent.

If you require any assistance with the set up of your new handset, please let us know which one you get and we will do all we can to assist.

Thank you,

Nat

Thank you very much.

Would you mean that I need to crop out the edge of the micro-SIM to make it nano-SIM?

Is it simply insert the SIM to a new phone to get start?

But how can the data be transferred? Should it go through Google?

How can I contact Virgin Mobile connection?

Virgin mobile website does not seem to offer any support or advice, or I could not find any.

Very strange.

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, please pop out the nano SIM from the micro SIM if possible.

You can save your contacts to your SIM card to ensure they are transferred over. With any other data that you wish to transfer, we would recommend using a back up service, as you have mentioned, Google Drive would be good.

If the new handset is unlocked to Virgin Mobile, you should have no problems when the SIM is inserted. Please do check with the seller that this is the case before purchasing the handset.

Please let me know if you have any further questions 🙂

Thanks,

Nat

Thank you.

I have done following an instruction on the screen and Google website.

The SIM was recognised as Virgin mobile, but the transfer was not fully done.

I needed to import the Contacts manually, and the text messages were not transferred, so I may need to use the old phone to check the old messages, unless the transfer may be still possible. But I am not sure.

Thank you.

Glad you've been able to get this set up Kaman,

I'm sorry it doesn't seem to have transferred over the text messages however.

Please let us know if you have any more issues.

These days it is very unlikely that text messages and contacts are kept on the SIM

There are a number of ways to transfer these between phones

What 2 makes of phone are you using?
