"Your new SIM is here" - No mobile data with my Nexus 5

Hi all,
Like others I've just been sent a new SIM to be used immediately to enable me to "move over to our improved network"!

After popping the SIM into my Nexus 5 I was pleased to see the phone side (calls/texts) all looking normal as the letter mentioned it might take 10 minutes. I only checked my mobile data a couple of hours later - to find it's not working/available.

Trying to reach a website (wifi turned off) displays:
" Ooops. To browse the internet, you need to buy a Data Add-on. We can't offer you one right now because we don't recognise this device."

Ends by saying to call our team on 789.
I've just done that but with no luck. They couldn't see a problem and are sending another replacement SIM. 

So not quite as "Woohoo!" as Virgin's 'all up and running' text makes it sound...
Not very happy, any advice appreciated.

Try texting ALL to 789922. That should sent the correct mobile data APN settings for the new SIM

Hi - the call taker asked me to do that - but I didn't get any text replies. So nothing changed.

I've just been looking at this guide to setting up a phone: https://www.virginmedia.com/help/virgin-mobile-phone-settings
Went to look at my APN settings and everything was blank - no APN listed?
Seems like the replacement SIM zapped things?
I've added an APN using the details in the guide and my mobile data is back! 🙂

Anyone know if I should do anything/check anything else.

I hope this post helps others that find themselves in the same situation...

Have you had any further issues since you last posted HmmmUK? 

Is your data still working without any problems? If your issues have returned, please let me know and I will get this looked into further.

Things look fine, thanks.
I did get back to the support people to cancel the replacement SIM they were sending. They said I would need to contact them the next day as their systems don't allow them to do it yet! So I did that, but a new SIM stil arrived today. As the package is worded to say things will stop working in 30 days I had to contact support to ask them to confirm I was safe to ignore the new SIM and my service wouldn't be interrupted. They confirmed this. Hopefully I won't be back in 30 days! 😉 

While I'm here talking about these new SIMs...
I have an elderly Mum who has an emergency mobile phone which is with Virgin.
She has around £50 on credit on a PAYG contract. We send a text every couple of months to keep it 'going'.
Virgin don't have her postal/email address. Will I need to contact Virgin to get a replacement SIM for her?
Obviously we don't want to lose either the £50 credit or the phone service!

Just check your elderly mum has not been put on the new basic PAYG tariff. Those texts will cost £2 a go.

Also check her phone is not a network locked PAYG from Virgin. It will need unlocking to work with the new SIM.

Which bit are you trying to resolve for me? Virgin have told me my replacement SIM saga is resolved.

If it's about my Mum's situation then please explain in the open forum if possible.
