new sim not recognised

I have received a new sim for my old nokia model 1100 for a stated upgraded service  This sim when installed gives the message 'sim not valid' . The help page says device not recognised. The old sim has been replaced in the phone where it works perfectly.  What needs to be done to get the new sim  working before Virgin disconect the old sim as they threaten

Re: new sim not recognised

The phone needs unlocking to work on the new cards. Check your letter or the red card that came with it for a 15 digit code.

Let me know if you find it and I'll post the unlock process

Re: new sim not recognised

The only 15 number that came with the sim on the accompanying letter is marked 'order number'. teeh sim has a personal unlocking keywhich has 8 numbers
Are either of these what i need?

Re: new sim not recognised

Unblocking code seems short but try this

Remove SIM card

Switch on with no SIM
Type in #pw+CODE+7#.
If +7# does not work use +1#

1. To show p in the phones display - just press * three times within two seconds.

2. To show w in the phones display - just press * four times within two seconds.

3. To show + in the phones display - just press * twice within two seconds.

Re: new sim not recognised

Hello enlli

Joining in here - I'm having same problem with Nokia 1100 phone and you seem to be the only person giving any sort of help.  My letter says I have a personal unblocking key with 8 figures.  Shall I give this a go,  Many thanks.

Re: new sim not recognised

You can. But I would not try more than once.

Re: new sim not recognised

Thanks for quick response but I'm a bit hesitant if you don't think it sounds right. Do you not think the 8 digit personal unblocking key is the same as an unblocking code? If I try it and it doesn't work, what should I do then.
Thanks for all your help.

Re: new sim not recognised

I tried Emlli answer but that didn't work and I never had any response from Virgin I had to scrap that phone and put the new sim in another phone ( Motorolo) and that has worked OK so far.

Re: new sim not recognised

Hello Emma

Thank you for your response.

I have been out of action for a few days but have now tried the enlii answer using the 8 digit personal unblocking key you sent.  It would not take the last hash and so has NOT worked.  Please can you help.
