new sim not asking for pin

I have received a new sim card but have not been asked to put in a pin code to activate it so it doesn't work.

We are so sorry that you are facing this issue with your new SIM but I'd be happy to take a look for you via a PM. I will pop you a PM across now, please keep an eye out for the purple envelope in the top right corner of your screen alerting you to a new message.

That's great and all passed. 

 

I can see the SIM is showing as active on our side, can I ask what exactly happens when you turn the phone on?
