eSIM Pixel 3a and activation overseas

Tuning in

Firstly does anybody know if the Pixel 3a eSIM functionality works on Virgin Mobile UK. It's not on the known list of supported devices but it is stock Android (Android 11). Secondly does anyone know if this feature can be enabled whilst overseas (roaming).

Reading round it seems eSIMs have to activate on the home network first.

Same question came up on EE forum and the official answer was no. I can't see Virgin being different

Yes from the reading I have done too the QR codes for activating the eSIM seem to be one-time only, although I did see that some on Verizon used it multiple times. So someone in the UK couldn't activate it first, then de-activate it and then send the QR code. It doesn't quite work like a physical SIM yet on some networks. Shame!
