Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network

I'm In Holland and my phone won't connect to any local networks.  I've tried manually selecting but always get this message.  This SIM card has worked in Holland in the past (2019)  but I've changed the phone recently.  Any ideas?

Re: Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network

You could try this:

For Android:
Select Apps from the Home Screen
Select SIM Toolkit Icon
Select Roaming
Select Select Mode
Select Manual
Select International-you are done, go back to Home Screen

To Switch back when in the UK:
Select Apps from screen
Select Virgin SIM Toolkit Icon
Select Roaming
Select Select Mode
Select Automatic and go back to Home Screen

For iOS:
Select Settings from the Home Screen
Select Phone Icon
Select SIM Applications
Select Roaming
Select Select mode
Select Manual
Select International and you are done, go back Home screen to retry

Re: Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network

Hi Flutophilus,

Thanks for your post and welcome to the forums. It's really great having you on board with us in the Community.

I'm sorry to hear you're having an issue with getting any service whilst in Holland.

  • Can you confirm that Roaming was activated before leaving the UK?
  • Has the steps given by enlli helped at all?
  • What phone did you used to have? What phone do you have now?

Pop back and let us know so we can help further.

Thanks,

Re: Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network

Thank you for the response. I could not find an App called Sim Manager but eventually I found an app called 'Virgin' which turns out to be the same thing.  I followed the instructions and selected 'international'.

I then went back to Settings, Connections, Mobile Networks, Network Operators, turned off Select Automatically  selected T Mobile and it connected.  I could then turn Select Automatically back on and it stayed connected. I suspect that restarting the phone after turning on International on the Virgin/Sim Manager App would be enough.

Thanks for the help. Very much appreciated.

Strange that this is necessary though.

Re: Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network

As above,  I found the Sim Manager app is called 'Virgin' on my phone. But once I found it and filled the instructions everything worked as it should.

The new phone is a Samsung A52S 5g phone from October 2021. The old phone was a Nokia 8.

Yes I did have roaming turned on before I left the UK.

Thanks
