Xiaomi SIM Activation Service

Hi folks,

After recently swapping to Virgin Mobile from Three, my Xiaomi Poco X3 keeps throwing the error message:

"Find Device"Can't activate SIM card. A network error occured.

When I click "try again" it just says "getting SMS gateway" then the error message again.

My SIM card is activated by Virgin Mobile. The phone manufacturer software seems to be trying to send an SMS to their servers and it's failing.

I've tried all the methods described on various Google searches.

Is this something I need Virgin Mobile to help with? I can't be the only person with a Xiaomi on the Virgin Mobile network!

Re: Xiaomi SIM Activation Service

Good morning @El_Poco_Loco

Welcome to the forums and thank you for taking the time to post.

I am sorry to hear that you have had some issues with your mobile services.

Are you able to let me know if this is still an issue? If not we can offer some further tips to see if we are able to assist further.

Kind regards,

Zak_M

Re: Xiaomi SIM Activation Service

Hi,

Yeah I've still got the same problem. I've tried everything I can find on the internet, do you know if virgin mobile allows texts to China?

Re: Xiaomi SIM Activation Service

Thank you for coming back to me.

You are able to text mainland china for 30p per text and calls are 120p per minute.

Kind regards,

Re: Xiaomi SIM Activation Service

Hi Zak_m,

Thanks for getting back to me. It's still not working. I think it's an automated text that the Xiaomi Sim Activation Service sends. I've put a £5 spend cap on my plan so it should be able to send a 30p text without restriction.

Can I send you screenshots of it?

Re: Xiaomi SIM Activation Service

  • For the life of me I can't see what they are playing at but have you tried via the Web

Activate from the Xiaomi website

It is a trick that allows you to activate the card, when we have had a problem with the account and its registration. To do this we go to https://account.xiaomi.com and enter our username and password. Then we will have to click on Security and write our phone number . Then we click on edit and wait to receive a verification code that we must enter on the web. If we receive the message, the activation will be successful

Re: Xiaomi SIM Activation Service

Where is the Security section? I've clicked on everything on the website but there's nothing about activation.

Re: Xiaomi SIM Activation Service

The only thing I have found is that it may be related to their 'Find my Device' service. Someone said turning that off stops the message.

I have no other idea
