Wi-Fi Calling and VoLTE

Hi all!

It sounds like some exiting news will be coming from Virgin Mobile very soon! Wi-Fi calling and VoLTE is getting activated. Not sure if the exact date but it could be this month? Any info regarding the date would be appreciated. Ohh... and also eSim for the iWatch will also be activated! Would be great if any from the mods or Team could confirm this!

Thanks!

Re: Wi-Fi Calling and VoLTE

They put a webpage up about it on the 20th Jan, then promptly removed it when mentioned on here 🤣

Re: Wi-Fi Calling and VoLTE

I take it this means the 800mhz (Band 20) will also be activated with VoLTE?

I really do not see that happening anytime soon. Apart from anything else, there's only 5Mhz of spectrum at 800Mhz and EE (quite rightly) minimise the access to it to avoid swamping it.

Re: Wi-Fi Calling and VoLTE

Well it means they will use their own IMS servers so that may be the case they are not restricted to 800Mhz

Nothing magical about that band and VoLTE. My 3 SIM will happily work on 800 and 1800 for VoLTE

With the upcoming demise of 3G they will have to offer it on more bands

Re: Wi-Fi Calling and VoLTE

Also remember that EE authenticate access to B20 separately from every other band - so can easily restrict access if they want to.

On EE, there's no 800 without VoLTE. Simples. The converse need not necessarily be true, but currently is.

Re: Wi-Fi Calling and VoLTE

Hi, I have an iPhone 6S. Is VoLTE now available on Virgin Mobile’s UK network? If so, what do I have to do to use it? My mobile internet drops out when I am on a call.

Kind regards & stay safe.

Re: Wi-Fi Calling and VoLTE

Virgin Mobile is an MVNO (virtual network operator) currently using EE's network.

Only EE pay-monthly customers can use VoLTE on their network, EE PAYG & third party providers such as Virgin cannot currently use this service.

Who knows what changes this coming year will bring, both in terms of what EE can/will offer, or where Virgin's "virtual" network moves to.
