Warning scam text supposedly from EE

Please be aware of a scam text message I received earlier today.

 

Date received 23 January 2021

Time 07:41

Sender 07932 938218

Content :  EE:  we are unable to process your latest bill.  In order to avoid restrictions please update your billing information via http://www.eebilling-updated.com

Cause for concern : I do not have a direct account with EE.  My account is with Virgin Media.

I have alerted Virgin Mobile to this scam.  The operator whilst helpful seemed unconcerned about the scam and didnt even want the details of telephone number that the text had come from when I offered it.  They did however, check and made sure that my account was secure.

I appreciate that scam texts, emails and calls are sadly part of everyday life but I would have thought a little more concern should have been expressed when a customer takes the time to report an issue that could potentially affect the whole customer base.

I've got security software that allows me to check.

Virgin can do nothing about the number from which it came as it was spoofed. 

The only thing they can do is block the UR on their own Web security systems.
