What phone do you have?
Might be that you have now switched over to Vodafones network and you now benefit from better quality calls as they are using 4G instead of 3G
I have a Samsung s20fe 5g.
I'm with Virgin mobile.

Virgin Mobile 5G contracts are supplied using Vodafone's network.
If I make a normal phone call to another mobile while out and about will volte use my data.
No, it still uses normal minutes, it just means the call will be HD quality, if the person at the other end also has VoLTE

No. In the future the majority of calls will be VoLTE. It is essential for calls on 5G and allows for calls to drop back to 4G when moving out of a 5G area. Also 3G will eventually be turned off.
I've been using VoLTE for over a year.
