Virgin sending a new Sim

Hi, I've had a text from virgin saying:

Important update: so we can roll out network improvements, we're sending you a new SIM. Please follow the steps to swap it as soon as it arrives in 7-10 working days.

It was followed up by a text today saying:

Thanks! We've ordered your shiny new SIM - it'll be on its way shortly.

Just wanted to double check this isn't a scam as the second message made it sound like I had ordered the sim. Has anyone else had this?

Re: Virgin sending a new Sim

It's only for people with the older red SIM cards. They are sent in batches so you might not get them at the same time

Re: Virgin sending a new Sim

Hello Everyone,

I've just had the same texts.

Does anyone know how long the old sim will carry on working for?

I'm locked down in Ireland at the moment so I won't be able to put the new sim in my phone.

Am I just going to get cut off? That really wouldn't be good!

I could get someone to post it to me (don't really like the idea of that)

But even if I did, would I be able to swap the sim over without any technical problems given that I'm locked down in Ireland?

Thanks for any info. There must be other people locked down out of the the UK right now with the same problem.

New sim in the UK, phone in another country. Couldn't have happened at a worse time.

Thanks for any replies.

Re: Virgin sending a new Sim

Message from Virgin is the old SIM cards won't stop working yet.

Just ignore and re- order when you get back

Re: Virgin sending a new Sim

Thanks Enlli, is there a timescale for the old sims being cut off do you know?

Who knows how long it'll be before I can travel easily and safely.

Re: Virgin sending a new Sim

No, but there are plenty of people in your position. Also some elderly are being sent them while self isolating with nobody to do the swap for them.

I reckon they will have to give at least 30 days notice of shutdown
