Very poor connection

Tuning in

Hi, first post on here, sorry its not a happy one.

I signed up to a new 2 year contract in November last year, previously I had no problems with the service from virgin mobile.

Shortly after agreeing to the new contract (was the only way to get the same deal as a new customer) the coverage and speed became worst and worst until now my phone is mostly unusable.

I still sit at the same spot for my lunch break, I used to read the news, now I rarely get to download the bbc news page (or any web page) in my half an hour break.

Often I have no signal at all, sometimes one or two bars on 3g ( although still so slow to be unusable) on rare occasions I get 4g and actually load a web page or two.

Its so erratic!

I live in the same town, not far from work, usually get 3g or 4g there but its very slow.

My partner and daughter are also on virgin and suffer similarly.

There are some places where I get decent service so I am sure the problem isn't with my phone (our phones)

I am miffed at the thought of having to pay to get out of the remainder of my contract when I am not getting the service that I signed up to!

I have looked at the coverage checker and it seems to be based on flawed data!

I have been a virgin customer in one shape or another for decades (got my internet from telewest before they became virgin) but I see no option but to jump ship to another supplier.

Hi asslowas,

Thank you for your post and welcome to the community.

I'm very sorry to hear about the issue you've been having with your Mobile service.

Have you been able to check out our sites to see if you can diagnose the issue: virg.in/mobsupport & virg.in/phonefix?

From what you have advised as this is affecting more than 1 user, it could be an issue in the area.

Hi Martin, thanks for your reply.

I have ( some time ago) checked for possible issues with my phone but as you say, considering my partner and daughter also have issues it is unlikely to be my phone.

I have read that my problems are likely to be due to virgin switching from vodafone to O2?

The problems aren't just connected to isolated areas, broadly, I have much slower connection than I used to, to the point of my phones internet being useless.

Although in some places it is ok, another point that seems to make my phone being the issue very unlikely?

Why would my phone function properly in some areas but not others?

Thanks Adam

We have moved our network to an O2 one. I can certainly check to see if you have been moved over to that, if you would like that?

Can you confirm if you have done a manual network search in the area's where the signal isn't great?

^Martin

Anything that could be done to save my having to switch supplier would be appreciated.

I have regularly switched off automatic network selection and I usually get virgin, vodafone, EE,  3UK and 234 32?

You are definitely on O2 from the reading on your network search.

Can I suggest you ask around and see if anyone on O2, Giffgaff or Tesco Mobile is having the same problem? If they are then it's one of the areas that have too many customers for the network bandwidth available.

Only answer then is to cut your losses and move. It will be some time before O2 improve after 5 years of decline

I have asked around at work, those on O2 say they have similar problems as I do 😞

I suspected as much.

I run dual SIM. My own is on Vodafone and a Company Account on O2. There are far too many areas I have to switch my data over to Vodafone to do anything useful
