Unreliable signal terrible mobile data

maceyp

In the last month or so I have noticed terrible speeds, constant 4g/5g dropping out. Sometimes it even days 4g but can't even list a page like Google.

I thought my device could be an issue Google Pixel 5. So I waited. Just got the new flagship Google Pixel Pro 7 and guess what. The mobile data and connection is still just as bad as it has been last couple of months. In fact I'm noticing the change from 3g to 4g to 5g all the time. This isn't in a rural error it's in places with huge 5g coverage.

I was previously with O2 many years ago and they were awful, I have a feeling this merge has caused it again.

Now my sim card is 4 years old this could be an issue but by the complaints I don't think it is. Also I would much prefer to move to an eSim So I can use my watch to full effect.  The service and customer service is so poor but like all monopolised industries they're allowed to get away with it and don't care about customers

Hello maceyp

Sorry to hear of the mobile data problems experienced and the frustration and inconvenience this has caused. We appreciate you raising this via the forums.

Is the slow data and dropped connection issues impacting you in one or multiple areas? We have a coverage checker here, are there issues with other services like calls and messages in the same area's?

Rob

Hi Robert,

As I said coverage area is very good in my area and area I work. I had zero issues at all prior to the o2/ vm merge. Even sat still with my phone on a desk I watched the internet stop loading while holding 5G connection.

I had Pixel 5 and now Pixel Pro 7 and experience the same poor service. Oh just seen the data drop again while typing this message.

What's the possibility of getting an eSim also, as this sim card is roughly 5years+ old I think.

@maceyp You mentioned using a watch with your Pixel. If it is a Google watch you are out of luck. At the moment only Vodafone and EE presently support it with eSIM

Hi enlli,

Yes it is the Google pixel watch I have. Looks like I'll have to just bin this oomph sim card I have then and get a cheap eSim with EE. Along with terrible data connection and speeds might be for the best

On our wavelength

Also just received Pixel 7 Pro to replace Pixel 3XL. I tested speeds on new and old devices with virgin and EE sim. Fact of the matter is Virgin is shockingly bad. It's like going back in time 5+ years the speeds are so slow. I have jumped from 4Mbps to 107Mbps on the same device by switching so it isnt down to the hardware.

From my experience it has nothing to do with the age of the SIM card. I complained about the speeds a couple of months ago and was told a new SIM would fix it but it made no difference whatsoever.

With regards to the comment about esim, the other poster is correct. You need to be on Voadaphone or EE. For info there is a charge of circa £7 for a smartwatch esim with EE.

Dont listen to the rubbish about it being certain areas. The fact of the matter is Virgin/O2 are awful for speeds. Sorry Virgin but thats the truth and you only have to look at the number of forum posts here all complaining about the same thing.
