Transferring a number to new virgin account

I am currently still in contract with 3 which ends next month, can I still transfer my old 3 phone number to my virgin SIM card ? Virgin account now 2 months old ? 

I know I would have to request a code from three when my contract ends

Yes, you can transfer in at any time.

Once issued PAC codes are valid for 30 days. Make sure your 3 account is live when you PAC as you can't transfer from a closed account.

Which network do Virgin use ? I heard it was EE but also heard they were merging with O2

Neither. New accounts are on Vodafone and will be for some time.
