As I receive a lot of spam I'm asking if this message from Virgin Media is real or not? Received 2 texts about wanting my address and postcode to send me a new Sim card. The first was from "Virgin Media" and related to sending a further text about asking for my address. The 2nd was from 789445 asking for my postcode. At no point in either message was my name mentioned, which is usually indicative of a scam message.
I too received 2 sms text messages from 789445 asking for postcode, then for 1st line of address. I was suspicious at first, but after signing up here, and also with a new online phone account, and reading about lots of people discussing the big push to send out new sims, decided to update my address on the online phone account, as per Virgin instruction on sms message. That way obviously is secure and genuinely Virgin, whereas the sms route COULD still have been a scam.

So I phone 789 on the phone that Virgin texted me on to get the new SIM that THEY want me to have, and they tell me that they can't talk to me as I'm not the account holder! I RARELY use a mobile (I have no need for one) and it's the only phone I've owned, on payg, now classed as a Legacy Account. I don't need this hassle so might as well cancel the account altogether...if they'll talk to me!!! Absolutely no help whatsoever.
Hi again, an afterthought, When I signed up yesterday to my mobile account, (not here in community forum), as well as the ability to change address was the ability to change name, if I remember correctly. Though my head is spinning at present with all these passwords & usernames. (eg for Virgin there's 3 websites, that's 6 passwords / usernames to remember not just one pair !!!! they're here, main account for phone, and some other load of cobblers called, I think, My Virgin Thanks Virgin, get a pro on the case, not a bunch of cheap amateurs.)
SO, If you managed to change your account name, they might talk to you. But poss i'm misunderstanding your situation and talking complete rubbish ! 😊 if you haven't already searched here for "new sim" . . . There's some good info from reputable sources.
Good luck, you'll probably need it, especially when the new purple sims go live when Virgin go to Vodafone instead of the current EE (Virgin are virtual "piggyback" on a real network). EVERY aspect of my Vodafone experience was a TOTAL SHAMBLES.
ps. My little non-smart nokia phone is on a legacy plan. . . 15p per min !! dont close unless ABSOLUTELY necessary.
PAYG suits me just fine as I hardly ever use the phone, so a rolling monthly direct debit contract is of no use to me.
I managed to order a new SIM so we'll see what happens next. From what I've read on this forum it looks like I may not get connected with it very easily. Why is nothing ever easy these days???
The man I spoke to on 789 was one of the most unhelpful people I've ever dealt with; he actually put the phone down on me! I never ordered the SIM from him as he refused to talk to me about my own phone. Like some others on here I only joined as I couldn't get through to anyone that would actually help me at Virgin. 800+ people have viewed my question and still no-one from Virgin has responded; having had just one contact from another customer in basically the same predicament as me.
Just to rub salt into the wound I have just received a text from Virgin asking me to take part in a customer satisfaction survey...I don't think they'd like what I have to say about that!!!
