Receiving someone elses texts and they’re receiving mine

About a year ago my friend received a text off ‘me’ in response to a message she had sent, the message said “it’s (their name) now. From (organisation name)” it was the only time it happened so I forgot about it. 

yesterday I received a text saying “Hi (their name) I won’t be coming in to (organisation name) today”. 

I explained to the person texting that it has happened before so they sent a screenshot of what happened on their screen, it was not my number but my texts coming through, but in the same text chat was (their name)’s texts. 

so it is clear we don’t have the same number but we are receiving some of each other’s texts. 

I have had this number for at least 15 years

Welcome to our Community Forums! Thank you for your first post and I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues with some texts, and that you're receiving someone else's messages.

Can you confirm if these incorrect messages are texts, or iMessages?

Have you recently upgraded or changed your mobile phone?

If so, did you change or upgrade to an iPhone?

Please let us know so we can look into this further.

It’s happened on both text message and I message. 
I have had an iPhone for at least 10 years but about 2 years ago updated to an iPhone 11. 
the first instance of this happening was in September 2021.

Just to clarify, when you received this text, not meant for you, the sender sent you a screenshot which showed they were in fact trying to send it to another number and it wasn't yours?

Have you ever had any issues with phone calls in this way?

That is correct, the screenshot showed a number that isn’t mine, however when my friend got a message it came through as my number 

no I haven’t had any issues with phone calls

When you go into your phone settings, can you confirm if it is showing as your correct number?

No it’s not showing up with my number, but it’s not showing up as the other persons number either,

I think it’s showing up as the temporary number I had when switching to my new phone
