Proprietary Operating Systems for basic mobile phones

I'm looking for a SIM free basic phone.  I only need to make calls, text, and maybe even go crazy and use a camera or FM radio!

Do I need to take into consideration the type of operating system the phone uses?

What does Proprietary, Proprietary g, Proprietary 1, Proprietary Nucleus etc mean?

Does the OS need to be updated from time to time like iOS?

Do the OSs on phones currently on the market play nice with all networks?

Will such phones keep working in the event of network upgrades and, dare I say it, if new SIMs are issued?

Re: Proprietary Operating Systems for basic mobile phones

Proprietary simply means that the firmware is produced by the phone manufacturer, against something like Android which is used in one form or another by many manufacturers.

Most modern phones should work with present SIM cards provided they are not locked to any network.

Movement wise. 2G will be around for many years. 3G will go in the next 2 to 3 years. 4G will become the standard and it will be some years before 5G comes to maturity

Not knowing what phone you are after can't comment further. Except few UK handsets have FM radio these days.
