Porting mobile number from Virgin

  • AS VM’s network carrier is unreliable in my area, I have just switched to EE. I ported my old number across, apparently successfully according to EE tech support. My wife is still on VM for the moment: when she attempts to call me, she gets “number not available from this network” message. The really, really annoying thing is that apparently the number is available enough for VM to send me a text trying to flog me a Samsung. As I’m approaching great old age, life is too short to try and go through VM help process, hoping for a quick answer here. Phones are iPhone.

I am sorry you are having issues with your phones.

Just to confirm can your wife's VM number, call other numbers apart from yours?

Can you call her number and receive from other numbers fine?

Yes I can call her phone successfully and receive calls from our landline. She can all others successfully.

How odd, this may sound odd but is the number saved correctly? I have an iPhone and sometimes it can save some numbers as a USA number?


Nice try, Zoie, but I think we’ve tried every combination of deleting and re-entering it! Absolutely certain it’s in the right format.

Ahh, I thought it may have been a stretch but thank you for confirming.

I would give EE a bell as they have ported the number from us, if they don't see anything wrong pop back 🙂

I did that earlier, but there is an EE shop not too far away: I’ll take both phones in and ask them to sort it face to face. I’ll let you know either way, but if that does’t work I’ll come grovelling back for help. Prob tomorrow now.
