Porting a number to VM

If i buy a vm sim and wish to port my existing non vm number, do i have to do this immediately on activating the sim or can i wait a couple of weeks?

Yes you can port the number out whenever you want but please don't make sure you cancel your other sim card with your current provider before you do this.
