Poor user experience from Virgin

I have just purchased a new SIM only contract from Carphone Warehouse.  I want to have my old number transferred to my new SIM.  I have a PAC code but need to register an account with Virgin Mobile before I can enter the PAC code.  I can’t do this because when I try to set up the account it asks for the answer to a security question which has not been set up.  There does not appear to be any way to do this without calling Virgin Media.  When I do I get an automated service which does not obviously help either. The help associated with setting up an account is inconsistent with the way it works so that’s a dead end as well. All a bit rubbish really.  Can someone help?
