Poor Signal and no 4G

I am anew user to Virgin having migrated from EE. I expected the service to be the same as EE for obvious reasons but it is a lot worse. The coverage checker says it should be excellent. How do i get this excellent service?

 

I also should be able to use 4G but I cam confused because when I go into the settings on my phone it shows the network mode as LTE/3G/2G. Do I need to do anything to change this or is it a Virgin setting?

LTE is 4G. So that's OK

EE and Virgin are not the same in some places. EE use 800Mhz 4G to give better range and indoor coverage. Virgin do not have access to this frequency. That may not be the problem but is a possibility
