Poor 4G speeds on iPhone 12 Pro

Hi all, in December I 'recycled' my iPhone 11 Pro to my wife and bought the 12 Pro. Recently I checked the 4G speeds and I'm disappointed.

In the same locations, both indoors and a couple of miles down the road, my wife consistently gets 80Mbps download whereas my signal level (bars) is lower and I get between 2Mbps and 12Mbps.

Virgin sent a new SIM and I've reset the network settings. iOS is up to date and Apple have done a hardware test remotely, which showed no issues. I've also tried the '4G', '5G Auto' and '5G' settings and they're all the same. I'm not in a 5G coverage area at the moment.

Any ideas what else I could try or do I need to take the phone to Apple?

If you can swap the SIM cards over and do a check it will identify if this is an account or a phone thing

Aha! You're a star! It didn't occur to me there was an account setting. Swapped the SIMs and the good service follows my wife's SIM. The bad service follows my SIM. VM I shall be calling you soon to sort this out.
Thank you enlli

Re: Poor 4G speeds on iPhone 12 Pro

I've just had another thought.

Virgin are Transitioning from EE to Vodafone. I wonder if you are on different networks.

Not sure how to do this on an iPhone but a network search should show both Virgin and Vodafone if you are on EE or Virgin and EE if you are on Vodafone

Check if you are the same on both phones.

Re: Poor 4G speeds on iPhone 12 Pro

If I switch off the Auto network selection, it lists the following:

Virgin
EE
3 UK
234 32 (?)
O2 -UK

My wife's phone shows:

Virgin
O2 -UK
vodafone UK
3 UK
234 32

so looks like I'm on the vodafone network?

Re: Poor 4G speeds on iPhone 12 Pro

Looks that way. I've seen a few posts about poor speeds on Vodafone and I'm not too convinced it is totally down to them, but no way of proving it. I'm a Vodafone customer and never seen speeds that low (50Mbs at home)

On a plus side you should have access to VoLTE and 5G where it is available.

Re: Poor 4G speeds on iPhone 12 Pro

Swings and roundabouts. Definitely don't want to pay EE directly though. Too expensive.
I checked the Vodafone site and it states that my local mast has had work done recently. Maybe things will pick up soon.

Hi davehutch,

Thank you for your post and welcome to the community.

I'm very to hear about the speed issues you've been having.

I have taken a look on our side and can see you have been through different tests with our agents.

How has the service been since your latest post on here?
