Do you have any access to the services, or is it one in service in particular?
Before leaving the UK, did you set up the sim card for roaming on the handset and self-care account?

I never thought about setting up my phone and I can't access my virgin mobile account as it needs to send a text to the phone to reset my password

Check out the purple envelope in the top right hand corner for a private message from me.
We'll look into passing data protection and then ensuring roaming is switched on for you.
As you're already overseas, there is no guarantee this will work, but we can certainly give it a try.
