No mobile connection in France

No connection after landing in France. Three months previously everything worked fine on a previous trip.

no issues around mobile coverage- everyone around me has a signal.

have mobile data switched on. Roaming switched on. 
when I switch airplane mode on and off the phone searches for a network and then says no service. 

i can’t even phone over wifi, although that is enabled!

connected now through hotel wifi

Can you please see if this helps, just go to.

Settings > Phone > SIM Applications > Roaming > Mode > Manual > International. 

If you’re using a newer iOS, then you it will be under Mobile Data instead of phone. 

Once this has been done you might need to reboot.
