New sim password

I have just received a new “oomph” sim. On replacement it is asking for a password NOT an unlock code or pin. I have tried these numbers and they don’t work- how do I get a password? The phone is quite old but the phone is important to us!

This isn't something I've heard of - do you happen to have a screenshot of this prompt?

 

Can you also please confirm the make and model of your handset for me?

Hi Beth,

it’s a Samsung SGH A800 but it’s too old to take a screenshot! It persisted in demanding a password so  I tried again using the decode number on the card and now it says “phone freezing, emergency calls only.”

I put the old card back in and it is still working.

The phone is old but we use it for important calls/ messages.

Hi again,

I took a photo of the screen. Prior to this it said “ Network lock”, before asking for a password.

Final outcome for anyone interested is that it appears some older phones are not compatible with the new cards! Virgin are supplying a new handset.
