Sorry to hear that you're having some trouble using your phone since getting a new SIM, this isn't good.
Whilst I can fully appreciate you've requested the unlocking code, I would just want to check that the SIM has been activated, I know the letter says put it in the phone and it will work but I just want to check in case anything has gone wrong.
If it has I can sort it quickly

I thought i would have a last look at new sim card etc. So took out of phone and put back in again. This time i was asked for network key.......put in number at bottom left card that sim came on......several times............each time it said "Invalid sim refer to manufacturer ".
I then thought i would try my old sim again.........and it works!!
So i have my phone back which is great but the new sim is not compatible with my phone.
So my next question is how can i sort out a new sim that will work with my phone.
Also how long will my old sim carry on working before it will be switched off?
