New Sim, unlock code needed

We have been sent a new sim for my wife's PAYG Nokia mobile. It came with an unlocking code but that will not work. I have filled in the online form for obtaining an unlock code twice. It says you will get a response in 72 hours. I have had no response at all. Tried ringing Virgin but lost the will to stay on the phone long enough to speak to anyone. Any suggestions of how to get an unlock code?
