New SIM, new phone (old SIM and old phone not available)

I was recently sent a new SIM after I lost my old phone. The new SIM does not work in my new phone. Can you help?

Does your phone recognise the SIM at all? What exactly is happening

Hi Travis,

My iPhone 8 recognises the SIM when you turn the phone on, as it requests a SIM PIN which can I enter successfully, but then it says "No service".

Is the handset locked to a provider by any chance? Or did you purchase this straight from the manufacturer?
