New SIM card sent by Virgin not working

Virgin mobile sent me a new SIM that they promised would move me over to an 'even-better network'. The only difference I can see so far is that I can no longer send or receive calls or texts...which are crucial for my work. 

Has anyone found a solution to this when swapping an old SIM for a new one?
